Whilst staying at the Virginia Court Hotel in Cromer for their annual winter birdwatching trip the Leigh Ornithology Society managed to visit several different bird watching sites in the varied landscapes of North Norfolk and the Norfolk Broads.
Thursday Hunstanton cliffs and beach then on to RSPB Titchwell
Friday Sherringham cliffs, Salthouse, Holcomb Park and Gap and finally Wells
Saturday Barton Broad, Winterton-on-Sea, Hickling Broad and Stubb Mill (Harrier Roost)
In total they saw and observed over 100 different species, highlights for the members included:
Bittern at Titchwell seen in the air at close quarters plus good close views of Water Rail
Male and female Marsh Harriers displaying very near road between Salthouse and Cley plus 20+ coming in to roost at Stubb Mill
Barn Owls spectacular at Holkham Gap
Green Woodpecker on the ground for a long time at Holkham Park
Snow Buntings flock at Salthouse on/near shingle bank
Common Crane at Stubb Mill
Male Hen Harrier Stubb Mill
Red Throated Diver in the sea and many flying low over the sea at Winterton-on-Sea.
Cetti’s Warbler heard at Barton Broad viewing platform.
